Questions about Ted W. Allen & Associates, Inc.? We’ve got answers.

About Our Agency

How long has Ted W. Allen & Associates been in business?

Ted W. Allen & Associates has been serving clients since 1967. Almost 60 years of continuous operation. We are a second-generation, family-owned independent insurance agency based in Cypress, Texas, in the Houston metro area.

What makes Ted W. Allen & Associates different from other insurance agencies?

We are an independent agency, which means we are not tied to a single insurance carrier. We work with multiple carriers to find the right coverage and pricing for each client, rather than fitting clients into a one-size-fits-all policy. We also specialize specifically in multifamily and habitational insurance — apartments, condos, HOAs, and property management companies — rather than offering generalized personal lines coverage.

What types of insurance does Ted W. Allen & Associates offer?

We specialize in multifamily and habitational insurance, including coverage for apartment communities, condominiums, homeowners associations (HOAs), townhomes, and property management companies. We also offer broader commercial insurance solutions for businesses and investors in these spaces.

What areas do you serve?

While we are based in Cypress, Texas and have deep roots in the Houston metro area, we are licensed to write commercial insurance nationwide. We serve clients across Texas and throughout the country.

Are you a licensed insurance agency?

Yes. Ted W. Allen & Associates is a fully licensed independent insurance agency, with nationwide licensing for commercial lines.

Working With an Independent Agency

What is the difference between an independent agent and a direct carrier?

A direct carrier (such as a company you’d call directly) only offers their own policies. An independent agency like ours works with multiple insurance carriers, which means we can compare options across the market and recommend the coverage that best fits your specific property and risk profile — often at a more competitive rate.

Why does working with an independent agent matter for multifamily and HOA insurance?

Multifamily and HOA insurance is more specialized than typical personal insurance. It requires understanding building-specific risk factors, master policy structures, liability exposure for boards and management companies, and how different carriers price these risks. An independent agent with deep experience in this niche can structure coverage that a generalist agent or direct carrier often misses.

What are master policy programs, and does Ted W. Allen & Associates offer them?

Master policy programs are exclusive insurance programs that independent agencies can access through specific carrier relationships, often providing broader coverage at more competitive premiums than standard market options. Yes — Ted W. Allen & Associates has access to master policy programs for qualifying multifamily and habitational properties.

Getting a Quote

How do I get a quote from Ted W. Allen & Associates?

You can request a quote by calling us at 281-378-7475, emailing info@tedwallen.com, or filling out the quote request form on our website. A member of our team will follow up to learn more about your property and coverage needs.

What information do I need to provide to get a quote?

Generally, we’ll need basic information about your property — type (apartment, condo, HOA, etc.), number of units, location, age and construction of the building, and your current coverage if you have an existing policy. For HOAs and condo associations, having your most recent reserve study on hand can also help streamline the process.

Is there a cost or obligation to request a quote?

No. Requesting a quote or coverage review from Ted W. Allen & Associates is free and comes with no obligation to switch or purchase a policy.

How long does it take to get a quote?

This varies depending on the complexity of your property and how many carriers we’re comparing, but most clients receive an initial response within one to two business days. More complex or larger properties may take longer as we shop multiple carriers for the best fit.

Coverage Questions

What does a typical multifamily property insurance policy cover?

A standard multifamily property policy generally covers building damage from covered perils (such as fire and wind), liability protection if someone is injured on the property, and loss of rental income if the property becomes uninhabitable due to a covered event. Coverage specifics vary by carrier and policy, which is why a personalized review matters.

Does a standard property policy cover flood damage?

No. Standard commercial property policies typically exclude flood damage from rising water, storm surge, or overflow. Flood coverage requires a separate policy. This is an especially important consideration for Houston-area properties given the region’s flood risk.

What is loss of rental income coverage?

If your property becomes uninhabitable due to a covered loss (such as fire or storm damage), loss of rental income coverage helps replace the rental income you would have collected during the repair period. This is a critical but often overlooked component of multifamily coverage.

What is D&O (Directors & Officers) coverage, and do HOAs need it?

D&O coverage protects HOA board members personally from liability related to decisions made in their volunteer role — for example, a lawsuit over a denied architectural request or a contested special assessment. Without adequate D&O coverage, a board member could be personally exposed. We strongly recommend this coverage for any HOA or condo association board.

How often should I review my coverage?

We recommend an annual coverage review at minimum, and ideally a review any time your property’s value, occupancy, or risk profile changes significantly. Replacement costs and risk factors shift over time, and a policy that fit your property two years ago may no longer provide adequate coverage today.

Claims & Support

What should I do if I need to file a claim?

Contact our office as soon as possible at 281-378-7482. As your independent agent, we advocate on your behalf throughout the claims process — we are not working for the insurance carrier, we are working for you.

Will Ted W. Allen & Associates help me through the claims process?

Yes. Supporting our clients through claims is a core part of what we do. We help guide you through documentation, communicate with the carrier, and make sure your claim is handled fairly and efficiently.

Do you offer any risk management or loss prevention support?

Yes. We offer a loss control program designed to help property owners and HOA boards reduce risk before a claim ever happens — which can also help manage long-term premium costs.
